Historic Links

Huis Ten Bosch (pronounced Haustenbosh) is a residential-style resort built in the style of a medieval 17th century Dutch town. The link to Holland goes back to the Edo period when Japan was closed to the outside world, under Shogun rule, and Nagasaki was the only port open for international trade. The arrival of a ship named De Liefde from Holland in 1600 at Kyushu Island was the start of trade exchange between Japan and Holland.
