David Davidson

Born in Zimbabwe, David Davidson spent his early years growing up in the African bush in Zambia, which instilled in him an enduring love of nature. David has been responsible for designing and creating the Kirstenbosch-South Africa exhibits for the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show for the past 18 years. Since 2000 he has been a designer in his own consulting business, Davidson Design Solutions. At the heart of his garden for the Gardening World Cup is a light feature that epitomises the Creation Myth of the African Bushmen with animals and people coming out of a great tree. This feature is enveloped by a deconstruction of the traditional Ndebele clay hut but with walls constructed from rolled foil packaging, a very innovative, uniquely South African art form. The planting will be made up, as far as possible, with indigenous flora arranged in an amalgamation of bright colours and organic forms. The remaining horizontal space will be segregated subtly into planting areas that represent the various major biomes of indigenous South African flora.
