Kazuyuki Ishihara - Behind the designer...
Ishihara is one of Japan’s best known landscape artists and gardening personalities. Entering into the “Ikenobo” group, known as the purest form of Ikebana, he was able to build his foundations as an artist.
Beginning with a tiny flower shop in Shianbashi Nagasaki, his flower shop became the highest grossing flower shop per square meter in Japan. Later he went on to open "Manabi", a garden and flower shop with an authentic Japanese country feel.
From 2004, Ishihara began building Show Gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show, known as the pinnacle of Garden Design where he won a Silver Gilt Medal. From 2005 to 2007 he won three continuous gold medals. Using flowers and greenery as his medium he continues to express the Japanese spirit and identity through his work. A self-titled “Country Boy”, he aims to spread his vision around the world of the need for a peaceful co-existence between human beings and nature.
